Major General Amir Hatami has been appointed as the new Commander of Iran’s Army by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

The appointment was announced on Friday through an official decree, which praised Hatami’s dedication, skills, and prior experience—particularly his tenure as Iran’s defense minister from 2013 to 2021.

The decree expressed expectations that under Hatami’s leadership, Iran’s military preparedness, ideological foundation, and coordination with other armed forces branches will be further strengthened.

The move comes following the death of Chief of Staff General Mohammad Hossein Bagheri. Outgoing army chief Major General Seyyed Abdolrahim Mousavi was thanked for his service and appointed as the new Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces.
