The much-hyped meeting between Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus and BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has concluded.
The meeting took place today, Friday, at Dorchester Hotel in London, UK, starting at 9:00 AM local time (2:00 PM Bangladesh time). It ended around 10:30 AM. After the meeting, Tarique Rahman left The Dorchester Hotel.
Shafiqul Alam, the press secretary to the Chief Adviser, confirmed that the meeting was held privately between the two leaders.
Both sides’ representatives are expected to hold a joint press conference following the meeting, Shafiqul Alam previously stated.
When Tarique Rahman arrived at the hotel, he was welcomed by National Security Adviser Khalilur Rahman and the Chief Adviser’s press secretary Shafiqul Alam.
This meeting comes amid ongoing debates over the timing of the upcoming national elections. It marks the first encounter or meeting between the Chief of the Interim Government and the second highest leader of Bangladesh’s largest political party BNP since the political upheaval of August 5 last year.
Given the discussion of significant reforms and unresolved issues related to the election schedule, this meeting is considered highly important.
It is reported that Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, a member of BNP’s Standing Committee, may brief the media on behalf of BNP after the meeting.
