The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast that a mild heatwave is currently sweeping across the northern, north-eastern, and several other parts of the country, and may persist over the next 24 hours.
In a bulletin issued this morning, BMD reported that areas including Rangpur, Rajshahi, and Sylhet divisions, along with Tangail, Faridpur, Brahmanbaria, Khulna, Jashore, and Chuadanga districts, are experiencing elevated temperatures due to the ongoing heatwave.
A trough of low pressure extends from West Bengal to the northwest Bay of Bengal, passing through the southwestern region of Bangladesh. Monsoon conditions remain weak to moderate over the North Bay and are currently less active across the country.
Despite the heat, light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds are likely in some parts of Chattogram and Sylhet divisions. Scattered rainfall is also expected in isolated areas of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, and Barishal divisions. Some areas may experience moderately heavy rainfall.
Temperatures across the country are expected to remain nearly unchanged. On Thursday, the highest temperature recorded was 37.3 degrees Celsius in Rajshahi, while today’s lowest temperature was 23.8 degrees Celsius in Bandarban. The highest rainfall recorded in the last 24 hours up to 6:00 am was 96 millimetres in Koyra.
According to the BMD, the sun is set to set at 6:47 pm today and will rise at 5:11 am tomorrow.
