Islami Andolan Bangladesh (IAB) Joint Secretary General and official spokesperson Maulana Gazi Ataur Rahman called upon the Chief Advisor (CA) of the interim government to ensure impartiality and institutional integrity in his engagements abroad, particularly in relation to his meeting with BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman during his visit to London.
In an official statement issued on Thursday, the Islamic political leader stressed the urgent need for principled discourse focused on the purification and structural reform of party politics.
Reflecting on the fragile state of political culture in the country, Ataur noted that despite fifty-four years since independence, Bangladesh has yet to nurture a mature and stable political environment.
He said, "The nation had hoped for a constructive political order following fifteen years marked by autocracy, violent power transitions and confrontational street politics but the current trajectory of national politics remains deeply disheartening."
Highlighting the significance of the BNP as a major stakeholder in the political process, Ataur argued that the Chief Advisor's overt political overtures to Tarique Rahman backed by visible state patronage and amplified media coverage send a disturbing signal of personalised political maneuvering.
He warned that such unilateral interactions could undermine institutional credibility and distort public perceptions of neutrality within the interim administration.
"Free and fair elections cannot be achieved without a genuine level playing field," he stated. "Equity is not merely a political concern but also a matter of administrative justice, psychological confidence and national security. The conduct of the Chief Advisor during the London visit has sparked apprehensions that the critical balance required for inclusive elections may be compromised."
The Islami Andolan leader further urged that the interim government must uphold its constitutional obligation to treat all registered political entities equally and without discrimination.
He reiterated that any deviation from political neutrality risks damaging both domestic consensus and international credibility.
Ataur also expressed hope that during the high-profile London dialogue, the Chief Advisor would candidly address issues such as political extortion and violence and call upon the BNP leadership to take meaningful steps toward internal reform and peaceful democratic engagement. He added that any such effort must also involve constructive discussion around the ongoing divisions within the BNP's reform process as the nation expects all major parties to demonstrate statesmanship and contribute to the pursuit of a broader national consensus.
The statement concluded with a call for political actors to rise above personal ambitions and engage in responsible, transparent dialogue that foster democratic purity and strengthens the nation's institutional framework.
