At least 21 people were killed and 49 others injured in separate road accidents in 11 districts - Khagrachhari, Sirajganj, Dinajpur, Natore, Bagerhat, Pabna, Moulvibazar, Patuakhali, Chandpur, Kurigram and Laxmipur.
KHAGRACHARI: A woman was killed and two others were injured in a road accident in Matiranga Upazila of the district on Wednesday.
The accident took place in Birashtila area under Tabalchari Union of the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Pormila Thripura, 40, wife of Guja Thripura, a resident of Maichchora area in the upazila.
It was known that the accident occurred when the driver lost control over of the transport they were riding and fell into a roadside ditch.
Pormila died on the spot while police rescued two others in injured condition, who were later admitted to local hospital.
Police, however, seized the vehicle, but its driver managed to flee the scene.
SIRAJGANJ: Two people including a woman were killed and at least 16 others injured in separate road accidents in Shahjadpur and Ullapara upazilas of the district.
Two passengers were killed and another was injured when a CNG-run auto-rickshaw lost control and crashed into the back of a truck in Shahjadpur Upazila on Tuesday.
The accident occurred in the morning on the Bogura-Nagarbari highway in Moshpur area of the upazila.
The deceased were identified as Abdur Rouf, 50, hailed from Haturia Village, and Trisha, 28, wife of Abdus Sattar from Daspara Village in Bera Upazila of Pabna District.
Quoting locals, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Hatikumrul Highway Police Station (PS) Abdur Rouf said that an auto-rickshaw was heading from Bera in Pabna towards Sirajganj in the morning. On the way, it lost control over its steering and hit a truck from behind, which left the two dead on the spot and another passenger seriously injured.
Being informed, police recovered the bodies of the deceased and handed those over to their respective families, the OC added.
On the other hand, at least fifteen people were injured in a collision between a bus and a microbus in Ullapara Upazila on Friday.
The incident occurred at around 11 am in Dabirganj area on the Dhaka-Rajshahi highway of the upazila.
According to local sources, a passenger bus travelling from Dhaka to Rajshahi collided with a microbus coming from opposite direction in Dabirganj area, which left at least 15 people injured.
Later on, locals rescued the injured and took them to different hospitals.
Hatikumrul Highway PS OC Abdur Rauf confirmed the incident.
DINAJPUR: An elderly man was killed after being crushed under a pickup van in Phulbari Upazila of the district on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Mannan, 80, a resident of Phulbari Adarsha College Para area.
According to locals, Abdul Mannan's motorcycle collided with a pickup in front of a petrol pump on the Dinajpur-Fulbari regional highway, which left him dead on the spot.
Being informed, police recovered the body from the scene and handed it over to the deceased's family members after an autopsy.
However, the law enforcers have seized the killer pickup van and arrested its driver.
Sub-Inspector (SI) of Phulbari PS Aslam confirmed the incident.
NATORE: Two people were killed in separate road accidents in Baraigram and Singra upazilas of the district.
An elderly man was killed after being hit by a pickup van in Baraigram Upazila on Tuesday night.
The deceased was identified as Kashem Ali Mondal, 60, a resident of Garmati Ghat Gucchagram in the upazila.
According to locals, Kashem was crossing the highway while doing his job as a night-guard on Monday night. At that time, an over-speeding pickup heading from Natore to Pabna hit him hard, leaving him seriously injured.
Later on, locals rescued him, but he died on the way to a private hospital at Bonpara.
Bonpara Highway PS OC Ismail Hossain confirmed the incident, saying that the pickup was chased and seized from a filling station in Ishwardi area.
Meanwhile, a man was killed after being hit by a bus in Singra Upazila on Monday night.
The accident took place in Singra Bus Stand area on the Natore-Bogura highway at around 10:30 pm.
The deceased was identified as Ramjan Ali Molla, 52, son of late Khadem Molla, a resident of Patkole Moholla under Singra Municipality. He was a rickshaw-puller by profession.
It was known that a Natore-bound passenger-laden bus hit Ramjan at night while he was crossing the highway, which left him dead on the spot.
Singra PS OC Rafiqul Islam confirmed the incident.
BAGERHAT: One person was killed and 20 others were injured in a road accident in Fakirhat Upazila of the district on Tuesday.
The accident took place in Mulghar area on the Dhaka-Khulna highway of the upazila in the morning.
The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.
The accident occurred when the driver of a passenger bus lost control over the steering and hit a roadside tree in the area, leaving one killed on the spot and 20 others injured.
Police and firefighters rescued the injured and took them to Fakirhat Upazila Health Complex.
Later on, six critically injured were transferred to Khulna Medical College Hospital.
PABNA: Four people were killed and another was injured in separate road accidents in Chatmohar and Ishwardi upazilas of the district.
A man was killed after being hit by a microbus in Chatmohar Upazila on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Zahurul Islam, 35, son of Mojibor Rahman, a resident of Kuthipara Village under Haripur Union in the upazila.
According to locals, Zahurul was heading towards Chaikhola Market riding on a battery-run auto-van for selling mangoes in the morning. When the auto-van reached near Boailmari Graveyard, an over-speeding microbus lost control and ran over the van. At that time, Zahurul died on spot.
Chatmohar PS OC Noyon Kumar Sarker confirmed the incident, adding that legal action will be taken if any complaint is received in this regard.
On the other hand, three people including a woman and her eight-year-old daughter were killed and another was injured after a covered van smashed a motorcycle in Ishwardi Upazila recently.
The accident happened when the motorcyclist was buying lychee parking his bike on the Dashuria-Kushtia highway.
The deceased were identified as lychee seller Anisur Rahman, 55, of the upazila; Suborna Khatun, 45, and her daughter Purnota, hailed from Natore.
Motorcyclist Mofizul Islam was critically injured and is undergoing treatment at Ishwardi Health Complex.
According to locals, Anisur Rahman was selling lychees on the highway. Mofizul Islam, who was going to Pabna from Kushtia along with his wife and daughter by his bike, was buying lychees from Anisur. Suddenly, a running covered van rammed into the four people, leaving all the four critically injured.
The injured were then rescued and rushed to Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex, where the three were declared dead by the on-duty doctors.
Pakshi Highway Police Outpost SI Kollol confirmed the incident, adding that legal action would be taken in this connection.
MOULVIBAZAR: Road crashes claimed lives of five people including two brothers during the Eid day and the day after in the district in three such accidents all involving motorbikes.
Police and local sources on Tuesday said that the two brothers, one an expatriate of Saudi Arabia, were killed in a motorbike crash on the Eid day as he was on his way to a relative's house along with his brother carrying meats of their sacrificial animal.
26-year old Saudi expatriate Sahed Hossain Sumon was killed instantly on the Eid day as he was heading towards his father-in-law's home in their motorbike along with his brother Rumon Ahmed, who was fatally wounded and died hours later on the same day.
Rumon Ahmed was rushed to nearby Barolekha Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctors referred him to better equipped MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital in Sylhet.
The accident occurred in Kathaltoli area on the Barolekha-Kulaura regional highway on Saturday evening when a private car collided head on with their bike.
Barolekha PS OC Abul Kashem Sarkar said they seized the car but its driver went into hiding.
Another two youths, named Jubed Mia and Kamrul Mia, were killed as their motorbikes collided head-on with each other in Kacharibazar area on the Moulvibazar-Shamshernagar road during the Eid day as well.
Another youth Mahbub Mia, who was in one of the bikes, survived the crash but with critical wounds that required his admission at Osmani Medical College Hospital.
Police said that in a third such accident killed an unidentified motorcyclist when his bike was hit head on by a battery-driven van at Satgaon crossing under Sreemangal Upazila on June 8.
The injured motorcyclist was rushed to nearby Sreemangal Upazila Health Complex, where attending doctor Kishore Podder declared him dead.
MIRZAGANJ, PATUAKHALI: A minor child was killed after being hit by a battery-run auto-rickshaw in Mirzaganj Upazila of the district on Monday evening.
The accident took place in Baidyapasha area under Kakrabunia Union of the upazila at around 7 pm.
The deceased was identified as Md Arafat Hawlader, 7, son of Md Mojnu Hawlader, a resident of Deuli Abasan area.
It was known that an auto-rickshaw hit Arafat in Baidyapasha area in the evening while he was crossing the road, which left him dead on the spot.
Bing informed, police recovered the body and handed it over to the deceased's family members without an autopsy as per their their request.
Mirzaganj PS OC Md Shamim Hawlader confirmed the incident.
CHANDPUR: Two persons were killed and at least six others including two children injured in a road accident in Matlab Dakkhin upazila on Sunday.
The accident took place in Borodia Bridge area on the Chandpur-Matlab-Pennai road of the upazila.
The deceased were identified as Siddiqur Rahman, 50, an auto-rickshaw driver and inhabitant of Choto Haludia Village under Matlab Uttar Upazila, and Tapan Chowdhury, 35, of Matlab Dakshin Upazila of the district.
It was known that the accident occurred when a passenger bus collided head-on with a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in the area, which left auto-rickshaw driver Siddiqur killed on the spot and seven others injured.
Locals rescued the injured and took them to Chandpur Government General Hospital, where Tapan succumbed to his injuries.
The physical conditions of the injured are stated to be critical, said medical officer of the hospital, adding that two of them were shifted to Dhaka for advance treatment.
Police, however, seized the two vehicles from the scene.
RAJARHAT, KURIGRAM: A motorcycle mechanic was killed and four others were injured in a road accident in Rajarhat Upazila of the district on Saturday night.
The accident took place on the east side of the Kurigram Dharla Bridge at around 9 pm.
The deceased was identified as Babu Singh, 42, son of Paltu Singh, a resident of Mekurtari Telipara Village under Rajarhat Sadar Union of the upazila.
It was known that Babu Singh along with two others went to visit Kurigram Dharla Bridge on the occasion of Eid. While returning, another motorcycle coming from the opposite direction collided with their motorcycle at around 9 pm, which left five people injured.
The injured were then rescued and taken to Kurigram General Hospital, from there, Babu Singh was shifted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital, where he died at around 11 pm.
Of the injured, one Ananta was transferred to Dhaka in critical condition on Sunday.
Rajarhat PS SI Bikash Roy confirmed the incident.
KAMALNAGAR, LAXMIPUR: An expatriate from Kamalnagar Upazila in the district was killed in a road accident in Qatar on Friday afternoon.
The accident took place in Doha, capital city of Qatar, at around 4 pm.
The deceased was identified as Md Jashim Uddin, 29, son of Tariqul Islam, hailed from Bhaktapara area under Char Lawrence Union in Kamalnagar Upazila.
The deceased's family sources said that Jashim Uddin went to Qatar about three months back. He used to work in a company in Doha of that country. On Eid day, he along with his colleagues was roaming around riding on a private car. At one stage, the private car turned turtle after its wheel got punctured, which left three people including Jashim dead on the spot.
Kamalnagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Rahat Uz Jaman confirmed the matter, adding that necessary assistance will be provided to the deceased's family to bring the body back to the country.
