UKHIYA, COX'S BAZAR, June 12: A woman was slaughtered by her husband at a Rohingya camp in Ukhiya Upazila of the district on Wednesday night.
The incident took place at Ukhiya Rohingya Camp No. 2 at around 8:30 pm.
The deceased was identified as Ayesha Khatun, 25, wife of NGO worker Syed Alam, a resident of the camp.
It was known that Syed Alam, 27, had an altercation with his wife in the house at night over family issues. At one stage of the altercation, he slaughtered Ayesha with a knife and fled the scene.
Later on, locals spotted the body and informed the matter to the police.
Being informed, police recovered the body from the scene and sent it to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
However, the law enforcers detained the deceased's husband.
Officer-in-Charge of Ukhiya Police Station Muhammad Arif Hossain confirmed the incident, adding that legal action would be taken in this connection.
