One arrested over Savar RMG worker murder case

SAVAR, DHAKA, June 12: Police arrested a man in connection with killing of a garments worker in Savar Upazila of the district.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) (Crime & Ops) Arafatul Islam confirmed the matter at a press conference held at Ashulia Police Station (PS) on Thursday.

The arrestee is Masud alias Jamai Masud alias Rana, 37, a resident of Jamdhola Village under Purbadhala Upazila in Netrakona District.
According to police, the deceased Khokon Mia, 28, and his wife Zahida Khatun arrived at Ashulia's Baipail Bus Stand by bus from their village home in Rangpur at around 3 am on Tuesday. As they walked towards Suzuki Japan Bike City in Baipail Bogabari area, they were intercepted by Masud.

When Masud attempted to snatch their mobile phone, Khokon grabbed him. The snatcher then snatched the phone and stabbed Khokon with a knife he was carrying.

Later on, Khokon was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
On information, police recovered Khokon's body and sent it to a morgue for an autopsy.

The deceased's wife Zahida Khatun filed a murder case with Ashulia PS the following day.

Subsequently, police arrested Masud from Baipail area using advanced technology and confidential information.

The knife used in the murder was also recovered from a covered van parked in front of SA Paribahan.

After initially confessing to the murder during questioning, he was produced before the court after legal procedures were completed on Thursday afternoon, said ASP Arafatul.
