A Khulna University student was found hanging at her residence in the city’s Labanchora area on Monday morning, police said.
The deceased was identified as Mahfuza Afrin Upoma, 23, a third-year student of the university’s Law department and daughter of Md Mahbubur Rahman, a resident of Amir Hossain Lane in Jinnapara.
Quoting locals, police said that Upoma had gone to bed after dinner around 11pm on Sunday. On Monday morning, her family members noticed that she was not responding. When they looked through her room’s window, they found her hanging.
Police recovered the body and sent it to Khulna Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.
"Upoma was known to be a bit stubborn. Her parents were aware of her suicidal tendencies and had deliberately avoided installing a ceiling fan in her room. However, she used a scarf to hang herself from a fan hook," said Labanchora Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Touhiduzzaman.
An unnatural death case has been filed in this regard, he added.
The body will be handed over to the family upon completion of legal formalities, the OC further said.
