The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has intensified patrols and surveillance along the Chuadanga-Meherpur border to curb illegal cattle smuggling and the unauthorized entry of animals ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.

In a press briefing held at the headquarters of the 6th Battalion in Chuadanga on Friday morning, Lt. Colonel Nazmul Hasan, commanding officer of the battalion, confirmed the heightened security measures.

He said the BGB is fully vigilant to stop cattle smuggling and the trafficking of sacrificial animal hides during the Eid festival. Local farmers in Chuadanga and Meherpur have sufficient livestock supply, and the BGB is ensuring that no cattle illegally enter the country to protect local farmers’ interests.

After Eid, stricter monitoring of animal hide smuggling will continue with reinforced checkpoints, he said.

The BGB is coordinating closely with other law enforcement and administrative agencies to maintain peace and security in the border areas and safeguard the national economy.

The BGB is also working with the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) through flag meetings to protest any illegal push-ins across the border and prevent unauthorized crossings, he added.

Additional Director Asif Ahmad and Company Commander Subedar Enamul Hossain were also present on the occasion.
