Jatiya Party (JaPa) Chairman Golam Mohammad Quader (GM Quader) has sharply criticized the proposed national budget for FY2025–26, calling it a reflection of a "neo-fascist political philosophy" and warning that it will worsen the plight of the poor and hungry.

In a formal statement responding to the budget on Tuesday (June 3), the former minister said,
“A budget is a reflection of a government’s political ideology and a key vehicle for its implementation. In that light, this budget reflects the philosophy of fascist collaborators and a new wave of authoritarianism.”

Quader noted that the proposed budget largely follows the pattern of past years under what he called a "fallen fascist regime," with only some adjustments in allocation and scope.

“There’s no real innovation in the political philosophy or structural foundation of this budget. It remains rooted in the same values and ideology as the previous administration.”

The Jatiya Party chairman deemed the revenue collection target in the budget “unrealistic,” citing the current political instability and deteriorating law and order situation, which he believes will deter foreign aid and loans.

“Until there is political stability and normalcy in law enforcement, foreign assistance will remain uncertain. This will significantly widen the budget deficit, creating major challenges in covering essential expenditures.”

Quader criticized the budget for failing to provide relief to the middle and lower-income segments of the population. He warned that the ongoing economic downturn, weak growth, and unrealistic inflation targets will lead to growing unemployment, reduced business activity, and lower tax revenues.

The inflation target of 6.5% is not credible. Inflation was brought down to 9.17% as of April, but there is no indication that it will decrease further,” he said. “With soaring commodity prices, we fear the number of half-fed and unfed people will increase substantially.”

In conclusion, GM Quader stated that the proposed budget brings no real good news or relief for the general public.

“This is a budget of declining growth, which will suppress employment, disrupt normal business, and hinder revenue collection. Ultimately, this will deepen poverty, not alleviate it.”
