HC dismisses writ challenging Faruque’s removal from BCB leadership

The High Court (HC) on Monday dismissed from its cause list a writ petition filed by former Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Faruque Ahmed, which challenged the legality of his removal by National Sports Council (NSC).

A division bench comprising Justice Kazi Zinat Hoque and Justice Aynun Nahar Siddiqua passed the order in the morning, declaring the petition as “out of list,” effectively putting an end to the legal proceedings for now.

The petition contested two decisions made by the NSC — cancelling Faruque Ahmed’s nomination as a BCB director on May 29, and appointing former national captain Aminul Islam Bulbul as his replacement the following day.

Senior lawyers Barrister Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal and Barrister Kaiser Kamal represented Faruque Ahmed during the hearing. Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman appeared on behalf of the NSC, while Barrister Nasir Uddin Ashim argued for the BCB.

The High Court’s move to drop the writ from its docket indicates that no immediate relief will be granted to Faruque Ahmed in his bid to retain his post at the country’s top cricket governing body.
