Dr Yunus to visit UK from Jun 9-13

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus is scheduled to visit the United Kingdom from June 9 to 13 at the invitation of King Charles III to receive the prestigious King Charles Harmony Award.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr Yunus will depart Dhaka on June 9 and arrive in London the following day. The award ceremony, hosted by the British royal family, will take place on June 12, and he is expected to return to Bangladesh on June 13.

During his stay, Dr Yunus is expected to hold meetings with King Charles and newly elected UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Diplomatic sources in Dhaka and London confirmed that discussions will focus on key bilateral and global issues, including the repatriation of laundered funds, trade and investment opportunities, development cooperation, the Rohingya refugee crisis, and regional collaboration in South Asia.

"This will be a high-priority diplomatic visit, following the recent tours to Japan and China, both in political and economic terms," said a senior Foreign Ministry official.

Dr Yunus will be accompanied by senior officials from the Bangladesh Bank, Anti-Corruption Commission, and other relevant agencies to engage in discussions on recovering illicit funds transferred. abroad.
