Bangladesh Bank (BB) governor Dr Ahsan H Mansur on Saturday said that there has been a mounting international pressure regarding the issue of money laundering from Bangladesh and repatriate those funds.

As a result, the UK's serious and organised crime agency has frozen almost £90 million (Tk 1479.38 crore) of luxury London property belonging to Ahmed Shayan F Rahman and his cousin Ahmed Shahriar Rahman.

Shayan is the son of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's adviser Salman F Rahman, and Shahriar is Salman's nephew.

"We are greatly encouraged by the recent seizure of assets in the UK. This momentum needs to continue. Many individuals and organisations connected to Bangladesh have laundered assets scattered across the UK.

We hope that these can also be identified and frozen," said Ahsan H Mansur while speaking at the inaugural ceremony of an event, presided over by PKSF chairman Zakir Ahmed Khan.
