Why our public transport in dire straits

Dear Sir,

A mere glance at the city's daily scene is enough to reveal the dismal condition of the public transportation system. From dawn till night, commuters crowd bus stands. They don't just wait for buses they wait for safe comfortable and timely travel. But this remains a distant dream.

??The number of buses is far fewer than the city's needs, and those that do operate are often in a state of disrepair, driven by unskilled operators, and cause immense suffering for passengers. Overcharging, lack of timely service, persistent traffic congestion, and widespread irregularities during travel have turned commuting into a daily ordeal.

?Despite numerous promises and plans from government authorities, implementation remains woefully inadequate. A lack of coordination, rampant corruption, and administrative negligence have further deepened the crisis in the public transportation sector. As a result, it's not just the city dwellers who are suffering-the socio-economic impacts are far-reaching.

There is no alternative to establishing a modern, disciplined, and integrated public transportation system if the sufferings of urban citizens are to be eased. I urge the Ministry of Road Transport to take effective and immediate steps to alleviate the distress faced by public transport users.
