Nine people were arrested along with firearms in separate drives in three districts - Rajshahi, Magura and Narsingdi.
RAJSHAHI: Police, in a drive, arrested six people along with cocktails and indigenous weapons from a meeting in Mohanpur Upazila of the district on Friday.
The arrested persons are: Alif Hossain, 19, Sohag Ahmed, 29, Md Bappi, 30, Md Pappu, 28, Sohan, 26, and Maruf Mostofa, 27, residents from different villages in the upazila.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mohanpur Police Station (PS) Ataur Rahman said that locals apprehended the six individuals with several cocktails and locally-made sharp weapons from a bag during a meeting held over a land related dispute between two groups of people in front of Mohanpur Union Parishad.
Being informed, a team of police rushed to the scene and arrest them.
After filing of a case with the PS, the arrested persons were sent to jail following a court order, the OC added.
MAGURA: Joint force members on Friday arrested a man and his son from Sreepur Upazila in the district on the charge of possessing a foreign-made firearm, ammunition and locally-made weapons.
The arrestees are: Munshi Abdul Kuddus, 79, and his son Munshi Jahangir, 52, a resident of the same area.
It was known that acting on a tip-off, a team of joint force led by Bangladesh Army conducted a drive in the area and seized the illegal arms from their possession.
The duo was, later, handed over to Sreepur PS along with the recovered weapons.
Sreepur PS OC Idris Ali said, "They are currently in police custody. Regular cases will be filed against them."
NARSINGDI: Police arrested a young man along with firearms from Bilashdi area in Sadar Upazila of the district on Tuesday.
The arrested youth is Md Sagir Ahmed, 22, son of Md Habibullah, a resident of Baluakandi Village under Raipura Upazila in the district.
Police sources said that acting on a tip-off, a team of the law enforcers from Narsingdi Sadar PS raided the area and arrested Sagir. They also recovered a shooter gun, one round of bullet and a knife from his possession.
Narsingdi Sadar PS OC Mohammad Emdadul Haque confirmed the matter, adding that a case under the Arms Act was filed in this connection.
