Detectives from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have arrested two suspected drug dealers with 4,600 Yaba tablets during a raid in the capital’s Paltan area on Saturday morning.
The detainees have been identified as Md Rahim, 26, and Md Shafiullah, 24.
Talebur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner (Media) of the DMP, said that acting on a tip-off, a team from the Illegal Arms Recovery and Narcotics Control Unit conducted an operation around 9:20am near Azmeri Hotel and Restaurant in Paltan. The team had prior intelligence that several drug dealers were planning to carry out a Yaba transaction in the area.
During the raid, Rahim and Shafiullah were apprehended, and law enforcers recovered 4,600 Yaba pills from their possession.
A case has been filed under the Narcotics Control Act at Paltan Police Station in connection with the incident.
According to DB officials, the arrested individuals are known members of a professional drug trafficking network. They had reportedly been involved in the collection and distribution of Yaba tablets across Paltan and other areas of Dhaka for an extended period.
During initial interrogation, both suspects admitted that the Yaba pills were intended for sale. Legal proceedings against them are currently underway.
