The Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) has been crowned champion of the 4th MBSTU National Debate Festival 2025.
The two-day event held at Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University (MBSTU) from May 23 to 24.
The event featured 28 teams from 21 universities across Bangladesh. Jahangirnagar University finished as the runner-up.
Miraz Biswas was awarded Best Debater of the Tournament, while Kamrul Ahsan received the Best Debater (Final Round) award.
The closing and award ceremony took place on May 24, with MBSTU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Anwarul Azim Akhand attending as the chief guest. In his speech, he highlighted the importance of debate as a platform for nurturing logic, ethics, and social responsibility among students.
“The energy, intellect, and analytical skills demonstrated by participants have been truly inspiring,” he said. “Debate cultivates awareness, encourages resistance to injustice, and helps build a responsible citizenry.”
The event was presided over by Professor Dr. Md. Motiur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Moderator of the MBSTU Debating Society. Special guests included Dr. Ziaur Rahman, Co-Moderator of the society; Dr. Md. Abu Zubair, Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences; Dr. Md. Anisur Rahman Anis, and Dr. Md. Imam Hossain, Proctor of MBSTU.
Chief Core Adjudicator Mahmudul Alam Rasel and Core Adjudicator Mohaiminul Islam Himu, a former president of the society, also spoke at the ceremony. The program was conducted by Roksana Ruku, President of the MBSTU Debating Society.
The Vice-Chancellor praised the organizers and participants and expressed hope that the next edition of the festival would be held on an even larger scale.
