Court grants five-day fresh remand for three accused

A Dhaka court has granted a five-day fresh remand for each of the three accused arrested in connection with the brutal murder of Dhaka University student Shahriar Alam Shammo.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate MA Azharul Islam passed the remand order on Thursday after the investigating officer of Shahbagh Police Station produced the accused before the court and submitted a petition seeking seven-day remand for each to further interrogate them in police custody. Upon hearing, the learned magistrate allowed a five-day remand for each.

The accused Tamim Hawlader (30), Samrat Mallik (28) and Palash Sardar (30) were initially apprehended on May 13 from separate locations in the capital's Green Road and Razabazar areas, only hours after the commission of the offence. Following their arrest, the court had earlier granted a six-day remand for each accused on May 17.
