BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday strongly condemned the killing of Tariqul Islam, president of the Noapara municipal unit of Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal in Jashore.
In a statement, Fakhrul denounced the incident as "horrific, demonic, and cowardly," expressing deep concern over what he described as a continuation of political violence.
He alleged that although the Awami League-led government had been removed through a joint movement of students and the public, its allies were still conspiring to destabilize the country.
"The enemies of democracy cannot accept the people's triumph. That is why they have resorted to violence and killings, even after the fall of the fascist regime," Fakhrul said, adding that the murder of Tariqul Islam is a manifestation of that strategy.
He accused government-backed elements of targeting opposition leaders and activists in brutal attempts to provoke unrest. "Awami-backed criminals are desperate to plunge the nation into chaos," he claimed.
Fakhrul called on the Interim Government to take decisive action to curb political violence and restore order. "There is no alternative but to deal with these terrorists with an iron hand. Otherwise, the country risks sliding back into instability," he warned.
Urging citizens of all political leanings to remain vigilant, Fakhrul said, "Only through unity and awareness can we ensure true democracy, good governance, and the safety of people's lives and property."
He demanded the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of those responsible for the killing. Fakhrul also offered prayers for the departed soul of Tariqul Islam and extended his condolences to the bereaved family.
