Police arrested a man in connection with the attempted rape of a schoolgirl at Tala upazila in Satkhira district on Thursday afternoon.
The accused is Sheikh Rowshan Ali, 54, a resident of Ganeshpur village in the same upazila.
The victim is a sixth-grade student at Khalishkhali Girls’ School.
According to locals, the girl went for private tutoring with a local teacher near Ganeshpur market.
On the day of the incident, the teacher was absent, so she was returning home. On her way, when she reached Ganeshpur market the accused reportedly offered her food and asked her to sit in his tea shop.
As evening approached, he allegedly lured her to a nearby chicken farm and attempted to rape her. The girl returned home and immediately informed her mother about the incident.
Confirming the incident, Patkelghata Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Mainuddin said that the victim's mother filed a case with police regarding the incident.
The accused was arrested and sent to court on Friday morning, the OC added.
