The School Kho Kho Tournament 2025 got off to an energetic start on Friday morning at the historic Paltan Ground in Dhaka, under the patronage of Global Insurance Limited and the guidance of the Bangladesh Kho Kho Federation.
The two-day tournament features a total of 13 school teams, seven in the boys' category and six in the girls', all vying for top honours in this traditional South Asian sport.
The day's play began at 7:30 AM, but the official inauguration took place at 11:00 AM, marked by a festive balloon release ceremony. Chief Guest and Chairman of the sponsor organisation, M SM Sarowar Alam, declared the tournament open in the presence of athletes and dignitaries.
The opening ceremony was graced by several notable personalities including Tournament Chairman Engr Abdul Muqtadir, Federation General Secretary Mr Mir Kaysar Sadiq, former General Secretary Mr Fazlur Rahman Babul, and Tournament Member Secretary Mr Motiur Rahman Babul. The event was presided over by Federation President Mr AHM Ziaul Haque.
On the field, the boys' group saw early victories for Haidar Ali High School, Alhaj Zafar Bepari High School, and Mouchak Scout School and College. Meanwhile, in the girls' category, Shiddeshwari Girls' High School, Lake Circus Girls' High School, and Mouchak School and College claimed wins in their opening matches.
The tournament will draw to a close with the final matches and a prize distribution ceremony scheduled for today (Saturday) at 3:00 PM. Federation President AHM Ziaul Haque is expected to present the trophies and medals to the winning teams.
With spirited performances and high hopes, the tournament promises to shine a spotlight on the future stars of Kho Kho, a game where teamwork, agility, and strategy take centre stage.
