The Election Commission (EC) has not yet made any decision regarding fresh elections for the Dhaka North and South City Corporations, as it awaits a formal directive from the government.

Speaking to reporters at the EC office in Agargaon on Thursday, Election Commissioner Abdur Rahmanel Masud said, "City Corporation elections fall under the jurisdiction of the local government. If the Ministry of Local Government sends an official request, the commission will sit and consider the matter."

He added, "So far, we have not received any letter from the government. Therefore, at this moment, there is no scope to consider elections for the two Dhaka city corporations. Once a formal letter is received, we will take it up for discussion."
On August 19, the government simultaneously removed the mayors of 12 city corporations and 323 municipalities. Later, on September 26, the respective councillors were also dismissed.
