The 3-day Plastic Toy Exhibition Fair opens at Intercontinental Hotel in the city on Thursday.
Secretary, Ministry of Commerce Mahbubur Rahman attended it as chief guest.
Ferdous Sumi, Senior Private Sector Specialist, World Bank and Abdur Rahim Khan, Project Director, EC4J Protect attended as special guest.
President of Bangladesh Plastic Goods Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BPGMEA) Shamim Ahmed made opening statement. Representatives from foreign Embassy in Dhaka attended the event. JICA representative also attended it.
Shamim Ahmed said on the occasion that plastic is an important sector with huge contribution to Agriculture, Pharmaceuticals, Food Processing, Green Houses and so on.
He said Bangladesh exports plastic products worth 2.5 billion USD direct and deemed exports together. Bangladesh produces not only intermediary products but also produce basic raw materials like 1.50 lac Pet tons, PVC-1.50 lac tons, PET-2.00 thousand tons and UMC for electric switches & engineering products.

Sonic (Bangladesh) Ltd, a subsidiary of Hong Kong-based Sonic Group, operating at Uttara Export Processing Zone, Nilphamari produce over one million die-cast scale models monthly, exporting primarily to European countries and Japan.
In 2023, their exports totaled $43.17 million, making them the largest toy exporter in Bangladesh. Cupcake Exports Ltd, another subsidiary of the US-based Cupcake Group, specializing in fabric-based toys.
Since starting operations in 2019, they have grown significantly and are expected to reach $2.5 million in exports. Shamim requests Bangladesh embassies in different countries to promote plastic toy export including all plastic products.
He also requested foreign friends from embassy in Dhaka, different agencies and buying houses who are present will help Bangladesh plastic industry's export to grow and reach their markets.
