Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has advised Cox's Bazar seaport to hoist local cautionary signal number 3 due to the formation of deep convective clouds over the North Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas, raising concerns about squally winds.
Cox's Bazar Meteorological Office Assistant Meteorologist Md Abdul Hannan confirmed the information on Thursday afternoon.
He said, "There's a possibility of light to moderate rain along the coast, and this condition might persist for 2-3 days. A low-pressure system or a weak cyclonic storm could form in the Bay of Bengal around May 26, 27, or 28."
The Meteorological Department reported that deep convective clouds have formed over the North Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas.
Under their influence, squally winds are likely to blow over the North Bay, Bangladesh's coastal areas, and seaports.
As a precautionary measure, all fishing boats and trawlers have been instructed to stay close to the coast and navigate carefully.
Meanwhile, red and yellow flags have been hoisted at Cox's Bazar sea beach as a warning.
Despite the cautionary signals, many tourists are still entering the sea for bathing. Lifeguards, beach workers, and tourist police are on duty to ensure their safety.
