Nation to celebrate 126th birth anniversary of Kazi Nazrul Islam

The 126th birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam will be celebrated nationwide this year with grand events and initiatives.

Ministry of Cultural Affairs and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy have planned a series of extensive programs in the capital city and Cumilla to commemorate the day, according to a recent press release.
A three-day event titled "Mass Uprising of the 24: Inheritance of Kazi Nazrul" will be held from May 25 to May 27 to honour the life and enduring legacy of the Rebel Poet.

The event will be inaugurated on May 25 at 3 PM at Cumilla Shilpakala Academy, with Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki serving as chief guest. The ceremony will be presided over by Md Mofidur Rahman, Secretary of Ministry of Cultural Affairs.

Special guests at the event will include Md Latifur Rahman Shibly, Executive Director of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam Institute and Khilkhil Kazi, granddaughter of the poet and chairperson of Trustee Board of Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam Institute.

As part of the celebrations, the prestigious Nazrul Awards for 2023 and 2024 will be presented to distinguished individuals in recognition of their contributions to the fields of arts and literature.

On May 26, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy will host a cultural program featuring music, dance and poetry recitations, starting at 6:30 PM, Mohammad Wares Hossain, Secretary and Acting Director General of the Academy, will chair the event.

In addition to central celebrations in Dhaka and Cumilla, local observances will take place in various regions, including Mymensingh and Daulatpur in Cumilla; areas closely linked to the poet’s life.

These local programs will be organized under the supervision of Ministry of Cultural Affairs and local administrations to ensure the occasion is observed with the proper dignity and splendor.
