This is a good omen that the major western powers including the US, UK, France and Canada have exerted palpable pressure on Israel to stop its offensive in Gaza and other parts of Palestine and lift restrictions on humanitarian aid to the starving Palestinian people.
Yet despite this warning from the global leaders, Israeli forces have not let up on their atrocities in an attempt to take control of the whole Gaza. They continued bombarding Gaza, killing at least 42 people in a span of 24 hours till Wednesday morning. Earlier, on Monday, Israeli attacks on Gaza had killed at least 87 people and wounded 290.
Amid Israeli military escalation, world leaders have expressed their serious concerns and threatened to take concrete actions against Israel if it does not stop its renewed offensive and remove aid restrictions. Three leaders-- British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, France's Emmanuel Macron and Canada's Mark Carney-- spoke out as 23 countries issued a joint statement urging Israel to let aid into Gaza. They cautioned that the population in Palestine is facing starvation.
Keir Starmer demanded an immediate ceasefire. He strongly opposed the expansion of Israel's military operations in Gaza, citing the extreme level of human suffering there. He also described Israeli settlements in Gaza as illegal and called for a halt of them, otherwise UK will not hesitate to take further action, including targeted sanctions.
Earlier, the US reportedly threatened to withdraw its support from Jerusalem in the face of mass starvation in the enclave. Trump administration warned the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu government that latter's failure to end the war in Gaza would lead to a withdrawal of American backing. This is a clear message from a Trump's representative that the US will abandon Israel if it does not conclude the war.
In the wake of speculation of possible US actions against its closest ally in the Middle East, White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt said that Trump wanted the war in Gaza stopped. This US response has come following last week's surprise release of Israeli-American soldier Edan Alexander, which was secured through direct US-Hamas negotiations without Israel's involvement.
Meanwhile, the Palestinian ambassador to the UK, Husam Zumlot, apparently called on the world leaders to impose an arms embargo on Israel though the UK has already taken some measures to suspend some arms exports to the Jewish state.
He also said that the global community should act to ensure that war criminals were held accountable and provide Palestinian authority's efforts with absolutely support at the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court which has issued arrest warrants for two senior Israeli officials, Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel, and Yoav Gallant, the former Minister of Defense for their war crimes.
We plead with the world community mainly Muslim Ummah to stand united against Israeli warmongers in order to bring the Gaza war to an end.
