In a dramatic turn of events, Rahmatganj Muslim Friends Society pulled off a sensational 4-3 win over reigning champion Mohammedan SC in the Bangladesh Premier League, completing a match that had been suspended the previous day due to inclement weather.
The encounter, held at the District Stadium in Cumilla, had initially kicked off on Tuesday but was halted after just 18 minutes due to torrential rain and poor lighting conditions. At the time of suspension, Mohammedan boys were leading 2-1 from Sulaymaniy Diabate and Emmanuel Sunday's goals.
When play resumed on Wednesday, Rahmatganj wasted no time levelling the score. Striker Taz Uddin found the back of the net in the 31st minute, making it 2-2. But Mohammedan's skipper Diabate struck again six minutes later, calmly slotting home from a Jewel Mia assist to restore his side's lead.
However, Rahmatganj boys were far from finished. In a stunning final flourish, they turned the tide of the match within just two minutes. First, Mahmud Oshi netted the equaliser in the 84th minute, and moments later, the Ghanaian forward struck again to complete his brace and put Rahmatganj ahead for the first time in the match.
Despite Mohammedan's best efforts, they failed to claw back, and Rahmatganj held firm to seal their eighth win of the campaign. The result also marked only the second defeat for Mohammedan in this season's league.
With this shocking win, Rahmatganj now sits fifth on the table with 26 points from 16 matches. Mohammedan, despite the loss, remain on top with 38 points. Meanwhile, Bashundhara Kings occupies the second place with 28 points, the same tally as Abahani, who got the opportunity to take sole ownership of the runner-up spot later on Wednesday.
