After a trophyless season despite boasting stars like Kylian Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior, Real Madrid is planning a major squad revamp. With Xabi Alonso set to take over as head coach, Los Blancos have already begun reshaping their team and the latest name on their radar is Spanish sensation Nico Williams.
Real Madrid is wasting no time preparing for the upcoming season. Following a disappointing campaign without silverware, club president Florentino Pérez is reportedly determined to revitalize the squad under incoming manager Xabi Alonso.
The rebuild has already begun, with deals completed for defenders Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dean Huijsen. Another young talent, Álvaro Carreras, is also expected to join the Spanish giants soon at Alonso’s request.
Now, Real Madrid has set its sights on 22-year-old winger Nico Williams, currently playing for Athletic Bilbao. The Spanish international, who shares a close friendship with Barcelona’s teenage star Lamine Yamal, has long been admired by the Catalan club. However, Barcelona appears to have cooled their interest, creating an opening for Real.
To land Nico, Real would need to activate his €58 million release clause; a fee the club is reportedly willing to pay. But they may face competition from Arsenal, who are also monitoring the forward’s situation.
Speculation is growing that Brazilian winger Rodrygo Goes may leave Madrid this summer and Nico is being considered a potential replacement. Interestingly, Arsenal is said to be in the race for Rodrygo as well, possibly setting up a swap of interests between the clubs.
In addition to reinforcing the attack, Real Madrid is also keen to bolster their midfield. Their top target was Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister, but the Argentine is not expected to leave Anfield anytime soon. As a result, Chelsea’s Enzo Fernández has emerged as a strong alternative.
With multiple moves in motion and new leadership on the way, Real Madrid is clearly gearing up for a bold new chapter.
