Govt vows to settle TNZ dues in a week, seeks interpol aid

The interim government has announced decisive actions to resolve the long-standing wage and benefit crisis facing workers of the TNZ Group, vowing to settle all outstanding payments within the next seven working days.

According to a statement from the Chief Adviser’s press wing on Tuesday night, the Ministry of Labour and Employment is spearheading the initiative, which includes liquidating the company’s assets to meet worker claims.

To generate the required funds, the government has decided to sell TNZ Group’s washing plant and the personal residence of its owner, located in Dhaka’s upscale Mohakhali DOHS area.

In addition, authorities are pursuing international cooperation to locate and repatriate the TNZ Group owner, who is currently believed to be abroad. A red alert will be issued through Interpol to facilitate his return.

Travel restrictions have also been imposed on the company’s directors and other senior management figures to prevent them from fleeing the country.

As part of the resolution process, all stakeholders—including workers’ representatives—have reportedly reached an agreement, and labour leaders have committed to calling off their planned demonstration in front of the Shrom Bhaban.

In a further move to ensure accountability, the group’s Director of Finance will remain in government custody until all dues owed to workers are fully paid, the statement said.

The developments follow weeks of unrest and protests by workers demanding months of unpaid wages and Eid bonuses from the TNZ Group, which operates multiple garment units in Gazipur.
