Four people including a woman allegedly committed suicide in separate incidents in four districts - Netrakona, Natore, Mymensingh and Moulvibazar.
NETRAKONA: A freedom fighter (FF) reportedly committed suicide by consuming poison in Durgapur Upazila of the district on Sunday night.
Deceased Santosh Debnath, 70, was a resident of Telunjia Village under Birishiri Union.
According to police and local sources, two sons of FF Santosh Debnath are government employees and he had been physically ill for a long time. He consumed poison in the house at around 7:30 pm on Sunday. Sensing the matter, other members of the family came and took him to Durgapur Upazila Health Complex. Later on, he died at the hospital at around 8:30 pm while undergoing treatment.
Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Netrakona Modern Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy on Monday morning.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Durgapur Police Station (PS) Mahmudul Hasan confirmed the incident.
SINGRA, NATORE: A farmer reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself after losing money at an online gambling in Singra Upazila on Sunday night.
The deceased was identified as Golam Hossain Batul, 53, son of Kachhimuddin, a resident of Bias Chakpara area under Dahia Union.
Local Union Parishad Member Tareq Hossain Dulal said that Golam Hossain often used to play gambling online. As he lost a large sum of money on Sunday, the family members scolded him. Following this, he hanged himself from a branch of a tree next to the house at night.
Being informed, police recovered the body.
MYMENSINGH: A student of an engineering college in the city committed suicide on Sunday, leaving behind a note in which he blamed the country's education system for his death.
Deceased Dhrubajit Karmakar, 22, was a third-year student of Computer Science and Engineering Department at Mymensingh Engineering College and son of Monotosh Karmakar and Supta Karmakar from Bijoypur Village in Fulgazi Upazila.
He was found dead in Room no. 307 of Amar Ekushey Hall at around 1pm.
In a handwritten suicide note found in his personal diary, Dhrubajit wrote the education system of the country will be responsible for his death.
The event occurred shortly after Dhrubajit was reportedly caught while cheating during an examination. He was removed from the examination hall by invigilators. Within an hour, he returned to his dorm room and took his own life by hanging himself with a towel from the ceiling fan.
Principal of Mymensingh Engineering College Dr Mizanur Rahman said, "Today was his exam. He was caught with unauthorised material and was asked to leave the exam hall. Shortly afterward, he was found dead in his room. He was taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where the doctors declared him dead."
Kotwali Model PS Inspector Sajib Kumar Barai confirmed the incident.
MOULVIBAZAR: A woman reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself in Kamalganj Upazila of the district on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Sumaiya, 23, wife of Muhitur Rahman of Tilagarh Village under Patanusha Union.
Sub-Inspector (SI) of Shomshernagar PS Raton Hawlader said that locals found her hanging from the ceiling at her room and informed the police.
Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Moulvibazar General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
