NARAYANGANJ, May 20: An woman was strangled to death over family dispute at Fatullah Railway Station area in Sadar Upazila of the district on Monday night.
The deceased was identified as Lucky Akter, 26, daughter of Sattar Hawlader, a resident of Shwaneshwar village under Bauphal Thana in Patuakhali District.
According to locals, Lucky married Shipon, 40, a butcher from Fatullah Bazar area, out of love. They have a 10-year-old son and a six-year-old daughter.
After their marriage, they lived as tenants in Fazlu Mia's house near Fatullah Railway Station area.
On that night, Shipon informed Lucky's family that she had committed suicide by hanging herself.
Subsequently, they rushed to the house and found Lucky's lifeless body with injury marks on her face and neck, covered with a sheet.
Lucky's husband, Shipon had fled with the two children after the incident.
Fatullah Model Thana Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shariful Islam said that the deceased's body has been sent to Narayanganj General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Efforts are underway to apprehend the deceased's husband, and further legal proceedings are in progress, the OC added.
