Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman described late Dr. A J M Obaidullah as a “living novel,” saying, “People learn by watching, listening and reading. He was someone who could be seen, heard and read. Dr. A J M Obaidullah was a true 'Karmabir'. The void left by poet Matiur Rahman Mallick was filled by Dr. Obaidullah.”
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman made these remarks as chief guest at a memorial discussion and prayer meeting organized by Chittagong Cultural Academy in honour of late Dr. A J M Obaidullah. The event was held at Institute of Engineers on Tuesday at 4 PM.
He further remarked, “As long as a talented person is alive, society often fails to appreciate their true value. It is only after the passing of Dr. Obaidullah that we are beginning to realize his absence.”
The program was presided over by Chittagong Cultural Academy President Selim Zaman.
Speaking at the event, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General Maulana Muhammad Shahjahan said, “Obaidullah Bhai stands alone in comparison. Often, relationships deteriorate over time, but despite being with people for a long time, Dr. Obaidullah never had even a minor disagreement with anyone. His absence, as a man of versatile talent, brings tears to our eyes.”
Chittagong City Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami, Shahjahan Chowdhury, said, “We worked together from eighth grade until the final days of Dr. Obaidullah’s life. He was a shining star of Islamic movement.”
Among others present at the event were City Jamaat Assistant Secretary Principal Maulana Khairul Bashar, Mohammad Ullah, Morshedul Islam Chowdhury, City Organizing Secretary and former Ward Councilor Principal Shamsuzzaman Helali, Dr. AKM Fazlul Haque, Jamaat candidate for Chittagong-11 constituency Shafiul Alam, Jamaat candidate for Chittagong-8 constituency Dr. Abu Naser, Workers Welfare Federation Chittagong Metropolitan President SM Lutfar Rahman and City Executive Committee members Dr. Siddiqur Rahman, Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal, Principal Zaker Hossain, Hamed Hasan Elahi and MA Gafur.
