A Sirajganj court has sentenced six individuals to death for the abduction and murder of a vegetable vendor named Nazmul Islam.
The verdict was delivered on Tuesday (May 20) around 11:15 AM by Sirajganj District and Sessions Judge, Senior District and Sessions Judge M. Ali Ahmed.
In addition to the death penalty, the court also fined each convict Tk 10,000. In default of payment, they will face an additional one month of simple imprisonment. Notably, none of the accused were present in court when the verdict was announced.
The six convicts are Khaja Mia, a resident of Pardhundia village under Gobindaganj upazila in Gaibandha district; Enamul, of Harinathpur Bishpukur village of the same upazila; Mojahid, of Dargapara village; Md. Bosu, from Pardhundia village; Md. Saidul Islam, of Madardah Purbo Para village; Milon Sarkar, of Ramnagar (Hatbari) village under Saghata upazila in Gaibandha district.
The prosecution was led by Public Prosecutor Advocate Shakil Mohammad Sharifur Haider (Rafique Sarkar), who confirmed the court’s decision.
