A Dhaka court has imposed a travel ban on Abu Yousuf Md Abdullah, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Northern University, along with his wife Halima Sultana Jinia and their three children, Sad Al Jabir Abdullah, Labiba Abdullah and Mosammat Habibun Nahar amid allegations of corruption and money laundering.

In a separate order, the court also barred former Additional Inspector General of Police and ex-CID chief Md Ali Mia from leaving the country.

The orders were issued on May 19 by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md. Zakir Hossain Galib, following two petitions filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). ACC Assistant Director Sajidur Roman submitted the applications, while public prosecutor MA Salahuddin Eskander argued in favour of the restrictions.

According to the ACC, Abdullah and his family are under investigation for embezzling university funds, laundering money abroad, and acquiring assets beyond known sources of income. The commission expressed concern that the accused were attempting to flee the country, which could hinder the investigation.
