Dhaka University (DU) campus witnessed heated protests on Monday as unit Jatiyotabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) marched with flaming torches demanding justice for murdered student Shahriar Alam Sammo.
Protesters called for resignation of Vice-Chancellor and Proctor, citing "complete failure" to ensure campus security.
They gathered at Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) at 7:30 PM before proceeding through key campus areas.
DU JCD President Ganesh Chandra Roy Sahos and General Secretary Nahiduzzaman Shipon led nearly 200 demonstrators who chanted passionate slogans including "My brother is in grave, why is killer free?" and "Why did my brother die? We demand answers!"
Shammo, studying at Institute of Education and Research (IER), was brutally murdered at Suhrawardy Udyan on 13 May.
Six days after killing, demonstrators claim authorities have failed to make significant progress in apprehending perpetrators.
"University administration must take responsibility for this tragic incident. How can students feel safe when murderers roam freely?" questioned Shipon whilst addressing protesters. "We demand immediate arrest of killers and proper investigation."
Office Secretary Mallik Wasi Uddin Tami had earlier announced programme through official statement calling for "justice for martyr Sammo" and "secure university environment" for all students.
Campus tension remains high as investigation continues. University authorities have yet to respond formally to resignation demands.
