Freedom fighter 'commits suicide' in Netrakona

A freedom fighter reportedly committed suicide by consuming poison in Netrakona's Durgapur.

The dead was Santosh Debnath, 70, a resident of Telunjia village under Birishiri union of the upazila.
Durgapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahmudul Hasan confirmed this information on Monday (May 19) morning.

Earlier, the freedom fighter died at Durgapur Upazila Health Complex around 8:30 pm on Sunday.

According to locals and police, two sons of freedom fighter Santosh Debnath are government employees and he had been physically ill for a long time. He consumed poison at his house at around 7:30 pm on Sunday. Sensing the matter, other members of the family came and took him to the Upazila Health Complex. He died at around 8:30 pm while undergoing treatment there.

OC Mahmudul Hasan said the body of the deceased was sent to Netrakona Modern Sadar Hospital morgue this morning for autopsy.
