The National Consensus Commission (NCC) is set to resume discussions with Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.
The meeting will take place on Sunday, at 10:30am in the LD Hall of the National Parliament.
This was confirmed in a press release issued by the Commission on Saturday.
The NCC has been holding dialogues with various political parties on the significant recommendations put forward by five different reform commissions. As part of this effort, an initial round of talks with Jamaat-e-Islami took place on April 26. However, all recommendations could not be fully discussed during that session.
The April 26 meeting primarily focused on the recommendations of the Constitutional Reform Commission. During the discussions, Jamaat-e-Islami expressed agreement with the proposal to introduce a bicameral legislature. However, the party advocated for elections in both the upper and lower houses to be conducted through a proportional representation system.
Jamaat-e-Islami also agreed in principle with the proposal to form a National Constitutional Council (NCC). Additionally, the party supported the recommendation that a person should not be allowed to serve as Prime Minister for more than two terms.
