A Metropolitan Magistrate has granted a six-day remand for three suspects in connection with the murder of Dhaka University Chhatra Dal leader Shahriar Alam Sammyo.
Metropolitan Magistrate Shahin Reza issued the reman order on Saturday after police sought a 10-day remand for each suspect.
Accused Tamim Hawlader, Palash Sardar and Samrat Mallik, were produced in court, but no defense lawyers represented them during the hearing.
Sammyo, a student of the International Relations department (2018–19 session) and literature and publication secretary of the DU’s Fazlul Huq Hall Chhatra Dal, was fatally stabbed by unidentified assailants near the university campus on the night of May 13. He was declared dead at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) shortly after being taken there by fellow students.
On May 14, Sammyo’s elder brother filed a case with Shahbagh Police Station against 10–12 unidentified individuals. The three suspects were arrested shortly afterward and sent to jail on May 15, pending the remand hearing.
