Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) has announced nationwide protests tomorrow (Sunday, May 18), alleging serious negligence in the investigation into the murder of Dhaka University Chhatra Dal leader Shahriar Alam Shammo.
The student organisation has scheduled two major protest events: a central rally at 3:00 PM in front of the Bangladesh National Museum in Shahbagh, and simultaneous protest programmes at educational institutions across the country.
JCD has demanded the immediate arrest of all accused individuals, with particular emphasis on apprehending the prime suspect.
They have also called for a fair and transparent trial leading to exemplary punishment for those responsible. In addition, the organisation underscored the urgent need to ensure a safe and secure campus environment across all educational institutions.
Leaders of Chhatra Dal expressed deep frustration over the slow pace of the investigation, accusing the authorities of inaction despite the gravity of the crime.
Shammo's murder has sparked widespread outrage among the student community. Hundreds of students have previously rallied to demand justice, as the case continues to draw national attention to the persistent issues of campus violence and political unrest in Bangladesh's educational institutions.
