Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has reiterated the government's commitment to advancing the country's telecommunication and information technology sectors, ensuring transparency and inclusivity throughout.
In a message marking World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, to be observed across the country on May 17, Prof Yunus said this year’s theme, “Gender Equality in Digital Transformation,” highlights a crucial aspect of national development.
Expressing his enthusiasm over the celebration, he said, “It is encouraging to see Bangladesh joining the global observance of this important day.”
Stressing the importance of equal access to digital tools and services, Prof Yunus noted, “Equal participation of men and women in all aspects of the digital revolution is essential to build a modern, discrimination-free society.”
He further emphasized that the interim government remains dedicated to ensuring equal rights and opportunities for both genders in the digital space—reflecting the values of the July mass uprising which emphasized justice and equality.
Highlighting government efforts, the Chief Adviser mentioned that a range of ICT services is being rolled out through union-level digital centers, bridging the gap between urban and rural communities.
He also noted progress on several gender-focused initiatives, including 'She-STEM' training programs for female students and special freelancing courses for women entrepreneurs, aimed at increasing women's participation in the digital economy.
One of the government’s major milestones, he said, is Bangladesh’s integration into a satellite-based high-speed internet network, which will significantly enhance connectivity in remote and underserved areas.
Calling on citizens to join hands, Prof Yunus concluded: “Let us all work together to ensure world-class telecommunication and IT services for every citizen of this country.”
