The wreckage of a passenger launch and a bulkhead could not be towed to the shore three days after the vessels collided with each other in Dhaleshwari River in Munshiganj, the authorities said late Thursday night.
The collision occurred around 3pm on Tuesday near Mollarchar in the middle of the river. Both launch MV Mayur-7 and bulkhead Redwan Riyad-1 were partially damaged and got locked together after the crash.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported.
The launch was en route from Sadarghat to Chandpur, carrying around 250 passengers, when it collided head-on with the oncoming bulkhead.
Shortly after the incident, MV Eagle-4, another passenger launch, rushed to the scene and safely evacuated all passengers from Mayur-7.
Owner of the launch Fayez Ahmed said efforts were ongoing to safely remove both vessels. However, a large portion of the three-deck launch is lodged atop the bulkhead, making it impossible to tow it away using another vessel.
Authorities and salvage teams continue to work on separating the vessels but progress remains slow due to the complex positioning and size of the launch. "UNB
