Nari Unnayan Shokti (NUS), in collaboration with Young Women for Development Rights and Climate (YWDRC) and the Forum for Culture and Human Development (FCHD), hosted a pivotal workshop at its Badda office this morning, calling for urgent action to support women and children with disabilities.
The event brought together affected individuals, NGO representatives, and civil society members. Dr. Afroja Parvin, Executive Director of NUS, presented the keynote, emphasizing the dire need for inclusive policy reform.
Speakers Nusrat Sultana Afroj (YWDRC) and Shahida Wahab (FCHD) echoed these concerns, while testimonies from disabled individuals highlighted the insufficiency of current government stipends.
The workshop concluded with the submission of 10 urgent demands to the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs and the Ministry of Social Welfare.
These include increased budget allocation with a separate code, enforcement of relevant laws, disability-friendly infrastructure, economic and educational inclusion, and access to reproductive healthcare.
Dr. Parvin urged, "We must act across four key pillars-budget, legislation, infrastructure, and awareness-for true change." Participants called on policymakers to take immediate, compassionate steps to uplift one of society's most marginalized groups.
