Saifuddin Ahmed, Proctor and Member Secretary of the Inquiry Committee on the Unlawful and Violent Incidents during the July Movement at the Dhaka University (DU), said, “We are sitting with the inquiry committee, but the students are not submitting any complaints. If they don’t cooperate, how can we take action?”
He said this in a special interview with Daily Observer on Friday.
Mahir Kayoum, a residential student of F R Hall, said, “The university’s inquiry committee is following the wrong approach. If they had reached out to students properly, we would have shared information. I myself have around 20 videos.”
He added, “They could have invited students to the hall auditoriums, shown the videos on a projector, and asked them to identify the attackers. It would take at most an hour to go room to room in a hall. Even then, they could’ve collected evidence and testimonies directly from students. The students don’t even know the new administration well. This is their failure.”
An inquiry committee has been formed to identify and take administrative action against those involved in the unlawful and violent incidents that occurred on the Dhaka University campus between July 15 and August 5, last year.
The committee previously submitted a report accusing 128 students, who were then temporarily suspended from the university following a detailed discussion at the Syndicate meeting on March 17, 2025.
Subsequently, the Syndicate formed a new five-member investigation committee to conduct further inquiry into the campus incidents.
In its first meeting, the committee called upon anyone with knowledge of the involvement of university teachers, students, or staff in the incidents to submit relevant information and evidence. Submissions can be made via email to: inquiry@du.ac.bd or in writing to the Proctor June 15.
