After four consecutive days of protests, students of Jagannath University (JUB) have officially ended their mass hunger strike on Friday evening, after getting assurance from government.

University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman, Professor S.M.A. Faiz, has formally ended the mass hunger strike of Jagannath University (JnU) students by offering them water in a symbolic gesture of reconciliation and resolution.
Professor Faiz arrived at the protest site in Kakrail in the evening and personally offered water to the striking students, thereby marking the official end of their hunger strike.

Speaking at the site, Professor Faiz stated, “The government has accepted the key demands raised by the students of Jagannath University. We appreciate their commitment to peaceful protest and urge them to now focus on their academic pursuits.”

The hunger strike had begun earlier in the day, at 3:45 PM, when students gathered in groups based on academic departments and began fasting at the Kakrail intersection. The protest was organized under the banner of "JUB Unity."

The announcement of the strike was made during a rally at 3:00 PM by Mahtab Limon, General Secretary of the Jagannath University Journalists’ Association. He declared the mass hunger strike on behalf of the movement, which saw the participation of around 5,000 current and former students.

The students had been demonstrating to press for a set of four demands, including a housing scholarship, full approval of the proposed university budget, immediate work on a second campus, and justice for recent attacks on students.

Following the government's assurance, students called off the strike but affirmed that they will continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure that the commitments are implemented.
