The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) attempted to push around 750 people into Bangladesh but was forced to retreat after intervention by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and over a hundred locals in Brahmanbaria’s Bijoynagar upazila.

This incident occurred around 2 AM on Friday at Singarbil border under Bijoynagar upazila of Brahmanbaria district.
According to sources, upon realizing the push-in attempt, 25th Battalion of BGB quickly took a vigilant position at the border. At the same time, local representatives took the initiative to alert locals through mosque announcements and social media, prompting people from villages of Singarbil, Bishnupur, Nolghoria, Merasani and Nowabadi to gather at the border. Within a few hours, more than a hundred people had gathered, which led BSF to retreat. The situation was brought under control without any conflict.

Bacchu Mia, a member of Singarbil Union Parishad (UP), said, "After receiving information from BGB, we made announcements in the area during the night. When villagers gathered, BSF backed off."

Similarly, another UP member, Mamun Chowdhury, said, "BSF had come to carry out the push-in covertly. Due to the strong stance of BGB and presence of local residents, they were forced to retreat."

Bijoynagar's Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), Sadhona Tripura, said the border situation is currently calm, but BGB and administration remain on high alert.

Lieutenant Colonel Jabbar Ahmed, commanding officer of BGB’s 25th Battalion, said, "Based on intelligence information, we were already on alert. With the involvement of local residents, we were able to prevent a major untoward incident."

Following the incident, patrol and surveillance along the border have been intensified. While there is a sense of relief among the locals, concerns over border security still remain.
