Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch on Monday briefed Islamabad-based diplomats on the recent trajectory of Pakistan-India relations, focusing on the implementation of May 10 ceasefire agreement.
During the session with diplomatic corps, the Foreign Secretary detailed the progress made following ceasefire, highlighting a key confidence-building measure—the exchange of detained personnel between Pakistan Rangers and India’s Border Security Force (BSF), carried out just a day prior.
She expressed gratitude to international partners who contributed to facilitating the ceasefire, noting their constructive diplomatic efforts in reducing tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
Responding to recent statements from New Delhi referring to the establishment of a so-called “new normal” in bilateral relations, Baloch rejected such claims, asserting that the only legitimate framework for Pakistan-India ties is grounded in mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity.
She reiterated Pakistan’s longstanding commitment to peaceful co-existence, dialogue, and diplomacy, emphasizing that sustainable peace cannot be achieved through coercion or unilateral narratives.
The briefing comes amid cautious optimism following the latest developments along the Line of Control (LoC), although regional observers stress that long-term peace will depend on political will and sustained engagement between the two sides.
