Unpredictable weather pattern of alternating sun and rain is set to continue across the country for another week, according to Bangladesh Meteorological Department.
After a week of intense heat, the sun is once again overshadowed by light clouds, giving way to brief rain showers. As the rain subsides, stifling humidity lingers, creating an uncomfortable atmosphere.
The ongoing pattern of scorching heat followed by rain is expected to persist for the next 8-10 days. While some areas may experience a slight easing of the heatwave, discomfort of high temperatures is far from over.
Meteorologists have pointed out that first month of the summer season in May brings frequent bouts of heat and rain, with brief moments of relief that do not last long due to high humidity.
On Thursday, regions including Faridpur, Madaripur, Gopalganj, Manikganj, Narayanganj, Rajshahi, Pabna, Sirajganj and Chandpur, along with Khulna and Barishal divisions, are experiencing moderate heatwaves. At the same time, several areas, including the capital, have witnessed rain, temporarily cooling down the atmosphere in some places. However, the relief is short-lived, as the heat soon returns.
Meteorologists explained that characteristic feature of May's weather is the occurrence of rain amidst heatwaves, which brings temporary relief but doesn't last long. With high levels of humidity in the air, post-rain coolness quickly fades and oppressive heat follows once again.
In short, while rain provides some respite; combination of sun, rain, and heatwaves is expected to continue for the coming days.
