Four people were electrocuted in separate incidents in two districts - Pabna and Munshiganj.
SANTHIA, PABNA: A polytechnic student was electrocuted in Santhia Upazila of the district on Monday.
Another person was also injured in the incident that occurred at Daulatpur Moholla under Santhia Municipality.
The deceased was identified as Maruf Hossain, 20, son of Liton Pramanik, a resident of Shashdia Village in the upazila. He was a third-year student of Civil Trade at Pabna Polytechnic Institute.
It was known that Maruf came home on vacation and then, went to assist construction worker Jibon Hossain in the house of one Siddiqur Rahman at Daulatpur Moholla on Monday. At one stage of working, he came in contact with live electricity at around 10 am, which left him critically injured.
Siddiqur's wife Swapna Khatun, 45, was also injured at that time as she came forward to save Maruf.
Later on, both the injured were rescued and taken to Santhia Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared Maruf dead and transferred Swapna to Pabna Sadar Hospital for better treatment.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Santhia Police Station (PS) Saidur Rahman confirmed the incident, adding that legal action would be taken if any complaint is received from the deceased's family.
GAZARIA, MUNSIGANJ: Two individuals were injured after electrocution while attempting to steal a transformer in Gazaria Upazila of the district.
The incident occurred in Balurchar area under Guagachia Union in the upazila on Sunday.
The injured were Sohel Rana, 26, son of Ahmmed Ali, a resident of Char Kumaria area of Bausia union and Naim, 17, son of Jitu Mia, resident of Balurchar area of Guagachia Union in the upazila.
According to locals, they were electrocuted while trying to steal a transformer from a Palli Bidyut pole. Later, locals rescued them and took them to Gazaria Upazila Health Complex.
After initial treatment, on-duty doctors referred them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in a critical condition.
Confirming the matter, Gazaria PS OC Anwar Alam Azad said that no complaint has been filed yet in this regard.
