PABNA, May 13: The penetrating heatwave is blowing over the district, getting lives disrupted.
There is no relief anywhere outside. Men and animals are panting in extreme heat.
Nazmul Haque, Assistant Meteorological Observer of Ishwardi Meteorological Office, said that the maximum temperature was recorded at 40.5 degrees Celsius in Ishwardi, Pabna, at 3 pm on Monday.
This is the highest temperature in this season. It is an intense heatwave.
On Sunday, the maximum temperature was 39 degree Celsius. The previous day, Saturday, it was 38.8, Friday 37.5, and on Thursday was 35.5 degree Celsius. That is, the temperature has increased by two degrees during the last five days.
Nazmul Haque said, at present, a severe heatwave is blowing over Ishwardi. Due to intense heat, sunlight is felt obliquely on the body.
The presence of cloud in the sky is very low; the amount of water vapour in the air is high; so intense heat is felt at Ishwardi; and no chance of rain soon, he added.
In the last year on April 17, the highest temperature in the country was recorded at 43 degree Celsius.
The temperature is unlikely to drop until there is adequate rainfall, he maintained.
Driver Mahir Uddin, 60, was resting on an auto-rickshaw at Pailanpur Junction in the city. He said, 'There has never been such a hot day in my life. We can't go in the sun. It feels like the body is on fire.'
Arif Hossain, 45, came to the city to buy some things needed for the family. He said, "I don't want to leave the house unless it is absolutely necessary. There is no relief in such heat. Even if the fan can't reduce the heat."
Mizan Hossain, a van driver, said, "I could not drive van due to the heatwave. I am sitting in shade. I can't meet family needs and give credit instalment.'
Due to the penetrating heatwave, the heat stroke may break out and spread diseases in the district.
Dr Ramdualal Bhoumik, a general practitioner, said, during a heatwave, it's crucial to prioritise staying cool and hydrated.
This involves avoiding strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day, staying indoor in air-conditioned space or cool location, and drinking plenty of fluids. Additionally, it's important to wear lightweight, light-coloured clothes and take cool showers or baths.
