Arakan Army reportedly abducted three Bangladeshi nationals after firing on them near the Naf River area at Teknaf upazila in Cox's Bazar district.
The incident happened at Leda, an area near the Naf River on Monday afternoon.
The abducted individuals were identified as Siddique Hossain, 27, Rabiul Alam, 27, and Mahmud Hossain, 30, all residents of Lamapara at Purba Leda area under Hnila union in the upazila.
According to Mohammad Ali, acting chairman of Hnila union said that three men were not fishermen. He could not confirm the reason behind their going to the Naf River.
According to locals, the trio were in a boat in the Naf River when Arakan Army spotted them and opened fire.
They, then, chased and detained the individuals and took them with them.
Teknaf 2 BGB commander Lt Col Ashiqur Rahman said that it is unclear whether they were fishermen or involved in drug trafficking as drug peddlers used the area for trafficking drugs.
The commander added If they are fishermen, we will make arrangements to bring them back.
